As a Remote Backup & Recovery Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing enterprise-level data protection solutions across the organizations infrastructure. You will ensure that critical data is backed up securely, efficiently, and in compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements. Your role also includes performing regular recovery testing, maintaining documentation, and coordinating disaster recovery plans with other IT teams.
This position requires expertise in backup technologies, cloud-based storage, virtualization, and disaster recovery (DR) strategies. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, security-conscious, and capable of supporting 24/7 business continuity needs in a remote, distributed environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and maintain backup and disaster recovery (DR) solutions across cloud, virtual, and physical environments
Monitor, test, and troubleshoot backup jobs to ensure data integrity and rapid recovery capabilities
Manage enterprise backup tools such as Veeam, Commvault, Veritas NetBackup, Rubrik, Acronis, or native cloud solutions (e.g., AWS Backup, Azure Backup)
Develop and implement data retention policies that align with legal, compliance, and business continuity requirements
Perform regular backup restores and disaster recovery drills to validate readiness and data availability
Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to ensure backups are aligned with system configurations, encryption standards, and RTO/RPO goals
Automate routine backup and monitoring tasks using scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash
Support migration of backup systems during cloud adoption or infrastructure modernization
Maintain documentation for backup processes, recovery procedures, and incident response playbooks
Assist with audit and compliance activities related to data protection, including reporting and controls testing
Required Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or equivalent work experience
1-2 years of experience in enterprise backup and recovery engineering or systems administration
Hands-on experience with backup solutions (e.g., Veeam, Rubrik, Commvault, NetBackup, Acronis, Zerto)
Familiarity with cloud-native backup tools and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
Strong knowledge of storage technologies (SAN, NAS, object storage) and virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
Scripting experience for automation and monitoring (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash)
Understanding of RPO/RTO, data lifecycle management, and compliance implications (e.g., SOX, HIPAA, GDPR)
Excellent documentation and communication skills in a remote team environment
