Mold Designer – Plastic Injection Molds

Location: Elmhurst, IL
Pay: $30–$40/hr (based on experience)
Shift: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Type: Contract-to-Hire (9 months with strong likelihood of conversion)

With a full in-house operation handling everything from mold design to sampling, they are expanding their engineering team to meet rising demand for custom-built plastic injection molds.

This is a chance to step into a high-impact design role where your experience with multi-cavity molds, hot runner systems, and complex mold actions will be put to immediate use in a fast-paced, supportive, and tight-knit manufacturing environment.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Design plastic injection molds from concept through final release using SolidWorks and/or Unigraphics (NX)

• Create 3D models and 2D drawings of complete mold assemblies, ensuring correct:

  • Parting lines and shut-offs

  • Lifters, slides, cores, and cooling layouts

  • Mold flow and DFM considerations

• Translate customer part data into mold-ready designs

• Collaborate directly with toolmakers, engineers, and CNC programmers to ensure feasibility

• Update engineering change orders, support mold sampling, and provide post-build updates

• Work independently and own your projects from start to finish

You’re a Great Fit If You Have:

Must-Haves:

• 3–5+ years of experience in plastic injection mold design

• Proficiency in SolidWorks and/or Siemens NX (Unigraphics)

• Deep understanding of mold components, including hot runners, lifters, slides, and shutoffs

• Experience with complex tooling designs and multi-cavity molds

Nice-to-Haves:

• Associate's or bachelor’s in engineering or plastics technology

• Familiarity with mold flow analysis and DFM

• Experience working in full-service mold shops

• Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a plug-and-play role without close supervision
