Delivers a balanced program of instruction to a class when the assigned instructor is unavailable. Major responsibilities include instructing students during school, implementing and modifying group and individual lesson plans according to established curriculum, maintaining accurate records as required by laws and policies, utilizing various classroom methods adapted to student needs and IEPs, working with teacher assistants and support staff, implementing behavioral protocols, observing and evaluating student behavior and development, maintaining professional communication with parents and colleagues, providing close supervision in all settings including playground, assigning and grading class work and homework, complying with youth physical intervention policies in emergencies, demonstrating commitment to behavioral approaches to motivate learning, incorporating social skills instruction, and assisting children with self-help skills such as dressing, diapering, toileting, and eating. Knowledge required includes state education policies and regulations of Nebraska, ability to deliver effective instruction, modify curriculum, maintain professional competence, communicate effectively, and work with children with special academic and emotional needs. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree from an accredited school, current Nebraska Teaching Certificate or Substitute Teacher Certificate, and PEM and nationally recognized personal restraint model certification if subbing in RTC or select settings. Preferred qualifications include experience with learning disabled and behaviorally impaired learners, Special Education endorsement, and current CPR certification.
